When it comes to us humans, popcorn is without a doubt one of the best treats for us. We tend to enjoy eating a lot especially if we are watching a movie. The thing is that anytime you’re eating a snack you can expect to see your dog there looking to see if you are going to toss him any.
However, before feeding your bernedoodle, you might be unsure if popcorn is suitable for your dog to eat or it can cause any negative health issues.
Can Bernedoodles Eat Popcorn?
There isn’t really a steady answer on whether popcorn is safe or not for dogs to eat. It is said that popcorn that is plain is quite safe for dogs to eat, however, the ones with butter on it or popcorn with other form of toppings is not safe for your dogs to eat on a regular basis.
Popcorn is known to be rich in fiber, antioxidants, vitamin B, iron, copper, magnesium and zinc, all of which are great for dogs but should be given in moderation. The main reasons why we should think before giving dogs popcorn is because of how it is prepared for humans. Popping popcorn using the oil method may cause added fat and calories which may lead to your dog having gastrointestinal issues, contributing to obesity.
Keeping It Healthy
If you are thinking about sharing popcorn with your little friend, the best thing is to ensure that it is air-popped. Air-popped popcorn is goof for your dog to consume if you are thinking about giving your dog a light treat. Popcorn with added seasoning such as sugar, butter or any other toppings can be bad for your dog and should be avoided at all cost.
How to Safely Feed Popcorn to Your Bernedoodle?
There are several ways in which you can prepare popcorn for your bernedoodles including stovetop, campfire, electric popper and microwave. However l, we don’t recommend using these methods because it causes added fat and calories which isn’t safe for your dogs to consume.
The best way to prepare popcorn for your dog is to air pop a small amount or even consider using oil less microwave just to be on the safe side. Make sure that you remove all unpopped kernels and hulls. Once done, you can now feed it to your furry friend plain, without any added salt or butter.
Make sure that you only feed your dog popcorn in moderation because it is said that it is never a good idea to eat too much of onething, it doesn’t matter if it is healthy for you or not.
Can Bernedoodles Be Allergic to Popcorn?
Yes absolutely they can, especially since corn is considered to be allergen to some dogs. If somehow your dog starts to experience allergic reaction to corn, they will have symptoms including diarrhea, gas, vomiting, or upset stomach.
If you notice any of these symptoms, then you should avoid giving it to your dog and consult your veterinarian for advice.
Though bernedoodle’s enjoy eating popcorn, we don’t think it would be a good idea to serve it to them. However, if it is prepared correctly without any added seasoning, and with the approval from your veterinarian, popcorn can definitely be a superb treat for your dogs.
