We as humans enjoy eating strawberries so does our furry friend. They are considered to be one of the sweetest and most delicious fruits you can find out there. There are lots of people who tend to wonder if it is safe to give their cockapoos strawberries to eat.
With that being said, I’m going to explain everything you need to know about strawberries and your furry friend eating them.
Can Cockapoos Eat Strawberries?
The short answer is yes, strawberries is on the list as one of the fruits your dog’s can enjoy without experiencing any form of health issues. The good news is that strawberries are full of healthy nutrients that are good for dogs, but just like all good things, it is always best to serve them in moderation. Not saying that they are toxic or poisonous to dogs, but they contains sugar and your dog having too much can cause upset stomach to occur.
We always recommend that you consult your veterinarian before introducing your dog to any new meal, as dogs who are suffering from certain medical conditions may not be able to handle eating strawberries.
How Are Strawberries Good For Cockapoos?
Not only is strawberries sweet and tasty for your dogs, but they are also packed with a lot of health benefits. There is no doubt that your cockapoo will enjoy having these especially during warm months when they are available.
Strawberries are high in immune system boosting vitamins C, B1, B6 and K. Apart from that it is also known to be high in minerals including iodine, potassium, magnesium and folic acid.
It’s also good to know that strawberries contain an enzyme that is capable of whitening your dog’s teeth.
How Should You Feed Strawberries to Your Cockapoo?
Before giving strawberries to your dog the first thing you would want to do is consult your veterinarian for advice. You should keep in mind that there are dogs who are suffering from me medical conditions which means that giving them strawberries without approval from your vet may make the situation worst.
If you get the go ahead to feed your furry friend strawberries, then you should do so, but make sure they are fresh and the strawberries have not being preservatives, herbicides or pesticides. Make sure that you take the time out to watch the strawberries thoroughly.
How Many Strawberries Can I Feed My Cockapoo?
If your dog is very small in size, then giving them one strawberry cut in multiple pieces is good enough. However, for medium size dogs we think 3 would be good enough, while dogs that’s larger in size can eat up to 5 strawberries on a daily basis, but the thing is that treats should not be more than 10% of your dog daily diet and you should provide them in moderation due to the fact that strawberries contain sugar.
Giving your dog too much strawberries to eat on a daily basis may lead to them having upset stomach. With that said, we highly suggest that you test them with a small amount and see how they react because not all dogs will enjoy eating strawberries.
Can Cockapoos Eat Strawberries Stem and Leaves?
We don’t think it would be a good idea to give your dog stem or leaves to eat. You will need to properly remove the stem before giving your dog, while leaves tend to taste really bad so more unlikely your dog will not enjoy eating it. Strawberries leaves are said to be difficult to digest which means that there’s a high chance your dog will have upset stomach.
