The short answer is yes, you can actually feed your maltipoo bread without them experiencing any issue. Though dogs can safely eat bread as much as we can, you should only feed them in moderation.

The thing is that if you decide to feed your dog bread whether it is plain or wheat shouldn’t be a problem as long as they are also fed a complete and balanced diet. However, it is best to keep in mind that bread doesn’t help your dog in anyway as it doesn’t contain any nutrients that’s not already in a dog food.

The fact that bread has tons of carbohydrates and sugar, it can cause your maltipoo to gain weight and obesity if they are being overfed.

What usually happens is that the bread dough begins to rise in the warmth of their stomach leading to bloating, discomfort and swelling. Dog bloat also known as gastric dilatation-volvulus is said to be a medical emergency for dogs and can be fatal for dogs who haven’t receive any form of treatment.

Toxic Bread Ingredients

You should pay close attention to the ingredients that’s in bread just to make sure that you aren’t feeding your dog anything that’s toxic to them. You may want to avoid feeding your dog seeded loaves, chocolate brioches, cinnamon and raisin bagels.

The truth is that there are lots of bread out there that contains ingredients that are dangerous to dogs in general. Some owners may have already known some of these ones, while some might be new to you.

Do not feed your dog bread if it contains any of the following:

  • Raising
  • Chocolate
  • Garlic
  • Onions
  • Seeds
  • Nuts
  • Xylitol

There’s no doubt that all these ingredients are toxic to dogs and may result in your maltipoo being ill after consuming them. It might be a case where your dog starts to experience diarrhea, vomiting and stomach upset, while more serious cases can lead to them having kidney failure and acute pancreatitis. If it’s a case where these are left untreated, it can become fatal.

This is why we think it is a good idea to avoid all these ingredients as best as possible and never feed them to your dog even when you are tempt to do so.
