You’ll also find some dogs to be lactose intolerant; you can tell if you find your dog stool to be loose or bad gas problem after drinking milk.
If it’s a case where your dog isn’t lactose intolerant, then reduced fat milk without added sugar may cause some issues. You should never allow your dog to drink chocolate milk since chocolate are widely known to be toxic to dogs in general.
Can Puppies Drink Milk?
Yes and the reason why puppies are capable of drinking milk while adults are unable to is because puppies are very well known to have an abundance of lastase enzymes that plays a role in breaking down their mother’s milk while nursing.
The thing is that once they weaned, their body will begin to produce less amount of enzyme in order to adjust to its new nutritional needs, at which will result in your dog developing an intolerance.
Another thing is that puppies can drink milk from their mother because it is said to be packed with antibodies and necessary nutrients for healthy development. It’s safe to say that cows milk and other dairy sources may not be healthy for them.
If it’s a case where the puppy is an orphan meaning that they aren’t capable of drinking their mother’s milk, then you will have to use an alternative source. When it comes to choosing a suitable replacement make sure to consult your vet just to be on the safe side.
Is Milk Bad For Dogs?
The thing is that many dogs are considered to be lactose intolerant, but you should still give them milk in moderation even if dairy products doesn’t affect them. Even though they might be able to consume sugar and protein, you should keep an eye out for the amount of milk they are consuming as it can lead to them vomiting and having diarrhea.
Apart from that, milk are known to be high in calories due to the fat and sugar content it contains, so if your dog should drink milk on a regular basis, it can result in them having obesity or pancreatitis.
Aside from the long term health problems milk may cause, your dog can actually drink it as long as they don’t have any form of dairy allergy and they are being fed in small amount. We also recommend speaking to your vet before feeding your dog any new foods.
How Much Milk Can Dogs Have?
Once you’ve gotten your vet approval, then you can probably feed your schnoodle a few sips of milk as an occasional treat. Giving your dog a few sips of milk from time to time is actually great and shouldn’t cause any health issues over time.
When feeding your dog make sure to follow the 90/10 rule and limit your furry friend treat intake to no more than 10% of their daily calories.
Taking the time out to serve your dog a small amount of milk shouldn’t be an issue especially when they are not allergic to any form of dairy products. However, you will find many Schnoodle to be lactose intolerant, so it is always a good idea to test if your dog is lactose intolerant first.
